… this is the question

This article is not about the current tiff between the government and a cab hailing App brand. Although an instantaneous doubling of price, will mean less patronage on the taxi service, more private cars on the road with driver only, and an intensifying battle for the few parking spaces available.

Neither is it intended to encourage residents to flee the country when the weather is scorching and the island is creaking with the added tourist numbers. Probably holidaying in the peak summer heat, may actually be financially viable considering the excess electricity bills for air-conditioning, the cost incurred to enjoy a day or more at a beach (or pool), and the cost of eating out or ordering in, make a holiday a very attractive proposition.

Young people are emigrating away from Malta — is a good sign, or is a harbinger of a disaster in the making?

This article actually deals with the brain drain of our young Maltese (and the not so young) making their fortunes away from Malta. This mass emigration is haunting indigenous businesses because of the lack of succession possibilities upon the retirement of the current generation of Maltese.

But who can blame the young if their aspirations are not being met by the Maltese economy? Youngsters have every right to prepare well for their future if other countries offer better opportunities than Malta.
