The Diploma in Computing

Another option that may work for you

The Diploma in Computing provides you with the foundations of a career in computer science. The Diploma has been designed to accept students with varying backgrounds, those who have studied computing at secondary school and those who have little or no knowledge of computing. The learning outcomes include all that you need to know at foundation level for a career in ICT.

The Diploma in Computing prepares you for the rigours required from programmers and developers in software houses in Malta and overseas, whatever the software you will be working on. The ability to know how computers are designed, built and work, and how you will be able to develop software to perform a wide variety of tasks, is the core aim of the Diploma in Computing.

Entry Requirements

The Minimum Entry Requirements for the Diploma in Computing are four ordinary level passes grades 1–5 SEC in Mathematics, English and any other two subjects (preferably Computer Studies is included & Maltese only if the student aims to gain entry to the University of Malta).

Students must be 16 years by April 30th of the year of entry to the Diploma in Computing.

This diploma provides you with the knowledge and competences that will serve you well if you decide to join the work force in a junior position in ICT, be it as a programmer, administrator or any other aspect of work in the IT department of an organisation.

Progression

The Diploma in Computing at MQF level 5 awarded by Saint Martin’s Institute of Higher Education will be able to progress either to read for the BSc (Hons) in Computer Science over two further academic years awarded by the University of London, under the academic direction of Goldsmiths College.

As from 2020, the University of Malta, Faculty of ICT, is accepting the Diploma in Computing (MQF level 5) awarded by Saint Martin’s Institute of Higher Education and Mathematics, English & Maltese ‘O’ level as the entry qualification for the first year of the BSc Computing Science, BSc Software Development, BSc Artificial Intelligence & BSc Computing & Business.

Progression is also available studying as an evening student!

A Legacy of Excellence in Computing over three decades

Saint Martin’s Institute of Higher Education has been involved in computer science education since 1985. During these past 34 years, the Institute taught computing at every level — from MQF Level 3 to 6; from ordinary (MQF Level 3) to BSc (Honours) (MQF Level 6). Our students and graduates have gone on to follow rewarding careers in Computing, locally and overseas.

Fees and rebates (full time study)

YES! You may pay €100 every month ti cover your studies at Saint Martin’s Institute of Higher Education.

The MQF level 5 Diploma in Computing costs €5,240 in tuition fees paid in 9 equal payments of €583 per month.

Parents/Legal guardians in employment are eligible to receive a tax rebate of €3,500 resulting in a net cost to the parent/legal guardian of €1,740.

The €1,740 may be paid in monthly installments of €100 over a period of two years through the SMIFlexiPay®.

Scholarship for top performers

Students who possess grades 1 or 2 in their 4 submitted ordinary level qualifications with their applications will benefit from a €1000 reduction in their tuition fees. Learn more Click Here

Stipends and Maintenance Grants

Stipends and maintenance grants paid over three academic years at Saint Martin’s Institute of Higher Education.

Students who are reading for the Diploma in Computing including specialisations are eligible to receive monthly stipends during the academic year of €163 per month and a maintenance grant of €1397 (these are paid under the MGUS and are conditional that the student resumes studies for an undergraduate degree in Computing).

Fees and rebates (evening students)

The MQF level 5 Diploma in Computing costs €2,990 in tuition fees paid in 18 equal payments of €166 per month.

Students who are already in employment are eligible to receive a tax rebate of €2,516 resulting in a net cost to the student of €1,078.
