Saint Martin’s Institute of Higher Education students are offered paid internship with PwC (Malta) as part of their degree programme, thus linking the world classroom to a global workplace.
PricewaterhouseCoopers (Malta) and Saint Martin’s Institute of Higher Education, the University of London Recognised Teaching Centre in Malta, have reached an agreement through which students reading for the BSc (Hons) Accounting & Finance, BSc (Hons) Banking & Finance, BSc(Hons) Computing & Finance or BSc(Hons) Computing & IS degrees may be offered paid internship experiences during their degree studies enabling them to put in practice what they learn in the classroom.
Ms Lisa Pullicino, Human Capital partner at PwC (Malta) is quoted as saying; “this agreement will offer Saint Martin’s Institute students the possibility to gain hands-on experience with the different teams at PwC, thus gaining exposure to the different facets of their studies at the Institute. The firm looks forward to work closely with St Martin’s Institute and with its students through this collaboration’’.
Mr Charles Theuma, Principal of Saint Martin’s Institute of Higher Education, said that “this collaboration gives the opportunity to the institute’s academics to get closer to industry. Students at Saint Martin’s Institute read for degrees that are under the academic direction of the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE),and lecturers at Saint Martin’s Institute are exposed to syllabi that have been developed as a result of extensive research carried out at the City of London financial centre. As the role of the auditor continues to evolve owing to the introduction of technology, our degrees must follow suit and focus on programming and data analytics using technology. The Institute’s specialisation in Business, Computing and Finance puts it in a leading position to prepare students for the roles needed by PwC (Malta) .”
What does this mean for YOU?
Saint Martin’s Institute of Higher Education students read for a University of London BSc (Hons) degree, whilst studying in Malta as full time students, over a period of three academic years. Full time students may be offered the opportunity to join PwC (Malta) as interns, after they finish their first year of study at Saint Martin’s Institute. PwC (Malta) offers interns who perform well, the possibility to keep their internship during the academic year, albeit reducing the hours not to impinge on their studies. The Institute on its part spreads its lecturing time table over four days, thus leaving ample time for students to continue with their on the job learning as interns.
Saint Martin’s academics have years of experience tutoring students in preparation for the University of London examinations, and this knowledge transfer will be enhanced through PwC’s provision for students to join the different teams to develop skills in the various facets of their studies, gaining further precious ECTS (European Credits) that enhances their diploma supplement. The Institute wanted to make sure that its students are able to attain on the job exposure with an international firm that guaranteed best practice.
Saint Martin’s Institute students have the advantage of reading for a world renowned University of London degree, that is valued globally. General admissions criteria
You must be aged 16+ and possess a minimum of six (6) ordinary levels for finance or four (4) ordinary levels for computing, including Mathematics & English (grade 1–5) [If you are a high flier and all your o-levels are at grade 1 & 2, you will qualify for a €1,000 part scholarship towards your annual tuition fees];
You will qualify for stipends and maintenance grants through MGUS equivalent to that paid to students attending a State University throughout your studies. You will also be paid whilst undergoing internship.
You will graduate by one of the most prestigious Universities in the world, the University of London, and the degree you will follow is under the academic direction of the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) ranked very highly in all University ranking mechanisms ;
Tuition fees may be as low as €100 per month for 60 months under the SMIFlexiPay, with a condition that the income tax rebate payable under the GetQualified scheme to the parent/guardian are paid in to finance the balance. If you want to learn more about this scheme Read This;
Saint Martin’s Institute also offers the SMI Financial Assistance Scheme that is earmarked for individual students who may have difficulties in meeting the monthly €100 payment. The scheme offers a loan at 3.7% interest, and no loan repayments whatsoever whilst studying, secured and interest paid by Saint Martin’s Institute during the study period. When students are in employment after they successfully finish their degree, they start making repayments and receive the GetQualified income tax rebate that will cancel 70% of the loan.
